We are looking ofr a Legal Counsel for a retail company to provide expert legal advice to management, undertake risk analysis to determine impact of legal matters to safeguard the best interests of the company and support the business by delivering commercially sound agreements. Handling of a wide range of legal matters, from labour law to corporate affairs.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day legal support to multiple business functions, including Retail, Sales, E-Commerce, Marketing, Human Resources, Finance, Customer Service, IT, Logistics, and Procurement.
• Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a broad range of commercial agreements, ensuring appropriate contractual frameworks are in place to support business operations.
• Partner with internal stakeholders to identify legal risks and provide pragmatic, business-oriented legal advice and solutions.
• Coordinate and report legal matters to the Corporate Legal Department, ensuring alignment with global legal strategies and policies.
• Monitor legal and regulatory developments and proactively communicate legislative changes that may impact the business.
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, supporting the implementation of corporate governance standards and employee training initiatives.
• Advise on matters related to commercial law, corporate law, labor law, data privacy, competition law, and other areas affecting the business.
• Conduct legal analysis, fact-finding, and risk assessments related to business initiatives, disputes, and potential litigation.
• Manage communications with government authorities, regulators, and external legal advisors.
• Instruct, coordinate, and oversee external law firms when required, including litigation management, while maintaining effective cost control.
• Provide regular updates to local management regarding the status of ongoing legal matters and key legal risks.

Requirements

• Law Degree from a recognized university in Mexico.
• Admission to the Mexican Bar is highly preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of post-qualification legal experience with a strong commercial focus, preferably gained in an in-house legal environment.
• Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide variety of commercial contracts.
• Ability to manage a diverse range of legal issues, including litigation support, employment matters, corporate governance, and commercial transactions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish.
